Burlington Arcade Robbery -1964

I had a phone call the other day from an elderly gentleman who wanted to discuss
the robbery with me. (No I wasn't involved)

Apparently the car used by the 5 guys was a mk10.

He asked me did I know the registration and where was the car now

I know the story!
The 1962 opalescent dark blue with light blue leather Mk X automatic which was used for the Burlington Arcade heist belonged to a Mr. A.E. Turnbull (if my memory serves me right) and was registered AET 9. Mr. Turnbull sold the car in 1969 and it was re-registered 213 PPO. I purchased the car in August 1969 from Ashington Car Sales in West Sussex. At that time the car was pretty tired. I only owned it a few weeks as it had very low oil pressure and resold it in Shoreham Lighthouse Car Auction. It annot have been in that desperate condition as I recall that I sold it with a warranty subject to disclosure of the low oil pressure. I saw it a few days later in the workshop of a used car dealer in Worthing. It had a false registration on it when it carried out the robbery as this was indicated on a rubber stamp in the VE70 document showing that it had been presented at Bow Street Magistrates' Court as evidence. I have checked in the past to see if it still exists but cannot find it, although I did not expect to as a tired 1962 Mk X was worth very little in the early seventies. I hope this helps. Jonathan.
