Both dashboards

Mk10

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

420G

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I believe the main difference is the change to the dash top, going from a full veneer on the mk10 to a cushioned dash front with central clock.

I'm not sure what i prefer, whilst i like the clock in the 420G, i think the full wood dash in the mk10 is probably nicer.

David,

I think I agree with you Exclamation

I am swaying over to the Mk10 now myself:-

Arrow Nicer Front Arrow Sloping

Arrow Dash is more appealing

Arrow No other differences

Arrow Except the chrome strip - Im sure that could be sourced and fitted.

Do we have any members with actual dash pictures from there cars Question

All good uploading practice for some of you Wink

The men in the white coats are going to come for me if I contribute much more on MK10 trivia geek but in the meantime...

The top LHD dashboard is a 3.8 Mk10 identified by the glovebox handle (told you they were coming for me Smile ) and although you can't see it the Auto Selector which is slim on the 3.8 but a round ball on the 4.2/420G.

The top "item"on the LHD is the Overdrive switch - hence the slim lever hidden by the steering wheel.

Not too sure what's happened to the heater controls on the LHD- are they the under the ashtray? - Air con was never a standard feature hence the monstrosity of the rear blower box on the rear parcel shelf - See Hurst Park Automobiles 4.2MK10 in Navy.

Just a thought- I wonder if the photo is taken from a pre-production model for the sales brochure before the heater layout was fully resolved?

Finally I'm pretty sure the vertical chrome strip either end of the dash is standard either model.

Well spotted carsie, i hadn't noticed the likes of the heater controls ot tray missing.

You may well be right about it being a pre production model. Smile

That's a strange radio in the last picture of a 420g , certainly not original .

When I was a lad (eh! by gum! ...) my neighbour's Dad use to have a black Austin Westminster . Every Saturday morning his Dad used to take us swimming in Blyth and just like when in Dad's Mk10 I used to peer over his shoulder as we drove along I used to do the same, comparing the differences between the Jag and the manual overdrive Westminster. As I write I can vividly recall the black bonnet and the look and smell of the red leather and can still recall the Reg No. BXH 490 . His dad sadly died, bless him and the car passed across to a neighbour and then to someone else till ultimately one day I stumbled across it in Shiremoor Scrapyard...... I stilll remember the shock and the stinging tears...

Today I recognise that old Jags live their life like the rest of us- with some of our bits distintegrating and falling to bits around us but our soul's (re- read that !!!! Smile ) - intact! - so whether its a crappy Japanese radio, some horrible American V8 or even a brush paint with Dulux - the soul lives on......Smile enjoy the ride - it's life .....just make sure its a smooth one with a Jag underneath you! LOL!
